One of the most important questions students will ask themselves when doing their studies is how to guarantee their livelihood. Owing to the fact that most students are giving priority to their studies, only a few of them have a regular income at their disposal. Mostly students are financing their livelihood with the help of

• child benefit
• grants of their parents (alimony during their studies)
• federal grants (BAföG)
• scholarships
• student loans
• employment with a marginal salary

At the "Studentenwerk Magdeburg" the office for training assistance is responsible for all questions related to financial topics during one’s studies. Of particular importance is the student grant in accordance with the BAföG (German Federal Law on Training and Education Promotion). This special grant could give 50% as a federal grant and the other 50% as a loan with no interest that could be paid back at very favorable conditions.

So, putting in an application for BAföG is always a wise decision, even if the recent maximum rate of 648,00 EUR for a promotion could not be reached.
